Thirty Years on Valentines Day

Believe it or not, “Silence of the Lambs”, starring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins, was released on Valentines day 30 years ago! Strangely, it was debunked from its original release date so as not to clash with Kevin Costner’s Dances with Wolves, to give him more of chance of success. What a decision by Orion pictures, as Wolves then took seven Oscars and Lambs became the third film ever to receive Oscars for Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Actor, Director and Screenplay.

Gene Hackman was originally offered the part of Hannibal Lector, but turned it down as he didn’t want to play a dark character. Michelle Pfeiffer was to be Clarice Starling, but for the same reason abstained. Good grief…. what a chance they missed!
