The chilling warning.

This is difficult to comprehend! Having stood in awe of St Marks square only two years ago, my wife and I were saddened to see that the flooding there has ruined much of the opulant art within Venice. However, not all of this was old, treasured or traditional. A bizarre picture to chill the bones was also affected.

The worst flooding for 50 years, it also covered a ‘Banksy’ drawing of a migrant child on a wall near the Campo San Pantalon. What was chilling about it was the fact it was wearing a lifejacket and holding a flare above its head!

The authorities should have listened then, instead of stealing the money intended to improve the flood defences. It seems politics in Italy, no more honest than our own, needs the eye of the artist to see beyond the flowery facades.
