Why do we see robins on Christmas cards?

Very pretty they look, but I’m struggling! I can understand seeing Santa and his reindeer, fireside hearths filled with colourful presents and groups of well wrapped carol singers in the snow. Of course, we shouldn’t forget the true meaning of Christmas; to celebrate the birth of Jesus, although many forget this nowadays, and cards depicting the nativity are crucial. But robins sitting on branches of holly being oggled by fluffy puppy dogs?

Well… we all know that Christmas is about giving gifts and sending letters, ever since the 4th century, and here’s the thing; at one time our trusty postmen were dressed in red… yes!

They became known as “Robins!”
