World Sleep Day and Me!

Friday 16th is World Sleep Day. I have a sad experience of what a lack of sleep can do to you, culminating in my car leaving the road when I drifted off to sleep behind the wheel. It seems that I had sleep apnoea. Something that came about from being overweight and the soft palette in the roof of my mouth descending, causing me to snore, gag and be shaken awake minute after minute. However, four years later I have lost three stone and have been using a breathing machine at night, all mended it would seem. So, if you’re having sleep problems… get checked out. My actions saved my life!

World Sleep Day is organised by the World Sleep Society. It aims to make people more aware of the problems associated with sleep by making everyone aware of the management of our resting hours. Cleverly, it is held each year on the Friday before the Spring Vernal Equinox.
